Marine Diesel Fuel Delivery in Tampa Bay: Dockside Guide

If your boat stays in the water, getting diesel should not require turning a fuel run into the first trip of the day. Marine diesel fuel delivery brings the fuel to your regular slip, so the boat can be ready before you leave the dock.

Mobile Marina delivers marine diesel by water across Tampa Bay on scheduled routes. We serve eligible marina slips, private docks, and boat lifts in St. Petersburg, Clearwater, Tampa, Gulfport, Tierra Verde, Treasure Island, Madeira Beach, and nearby waterfront communities. The service is designed for diesel-powered boats that need a planned fill without the detour, wait, and operating-hour limits of a marina fuel dock.

This guide explains who dockside diesel delivery is for, what it costs, how a fill works, and what information to have ready before scheduling.

The Quick Answer: How Dockside Diesel Delivery Works

Mobile Marina's fuel vessel approaches your boat from the water and delivers marine diesel directly to the vessel's fuel fill. Your boat location, tank information, requested quantity or fill instructions, and marina access details are saved in your Mobile Marina account. The captain receives that information for the delivery, and the order is placed on the scheduled route for your area.

The boat normally stays at its slip or lift. There is no need to motor to a fuel dock or wait for an open pump. The exact dock must be safely reachable from the water, and the marina or property must allow the service.

As of August 22, 2026, Mobile Marina's posted marine diesel price is $6.13 per gallon. Fuel markets move, so check the live Tampa Bay boat fuel price page when you are ready to schedule. That page shows Mobile Marina's current rate alongside publicly posted marina prices.

Which Boats Are a Good Fit for Marine Diesel Delivery?

Marine diesel fuel delivery is for any diesel boat owner who would rather spend time using the boat than fueling it. A run to the fuel dock is still an errand: start the engines, leave the slip, motor to the pump, wait your turn, tie up, fuel, and make the return trip before the day has really started. That is time you could be fishing, heading to the sandbar, cruising with your family, or simply getting underway.

The convenience becomes even more valuable for boats that remain in the water and carry enough fuel to turn a fill-up into a significant detour. Common examples include:

  • Sportfishing boats with diesel inboards
  • Motor yachts and cruising yachts
  • Trawlers and long-range cruisers
  • Sailboats with diesel auxiliary engines
  • Larger cabin boats and express cruisers
  • Workboats and other eligible commercial vessels

Tank size alone does not determine whether delivery makes sense. A sailboat may need a modest fill but have limited fuel options nearby. A sportfish may take hundreds of gallons and lose meaningful time traveling to and waiting at a fuel dock. In both cases, the useful question is the same: can the boat be fueled safely at its regular location on an existing route?

Diesel boats often have more than one tank or a separate generator tank. Add the capacity of each tank, the fills you want serviced, and any gallon-allocation instructions to your account. Clear, complete account information helps the captain prepare for the boat before arriving at the dock.

How our dockside fuel compares to the marina docks

Ethanol-free (Rec 90) and diesel prices as publicly posted by Tampa Bay marina fuel docks, compiled daily — side by side with our delivered pricing. Marina listings are reference points, not verified quotes. What the price column can't show: fuel loaded fresh from the bulk terminal that morning, delivered to your slip, no minimums, no run to the dock, and scheduling that's a couple of taps in the app.

Important: Some marinas update their public listings infrequently, so a posted price may not match the current pump price. Check the Posted date and call the dock before relying on any marina figure.

Compiled from publicly posted marina prices as of September 3, 2026; the Posted column shows when each dock last listed its price. These figures are not independently verified; prices at the pump can differ, and hours and closures change — confirm with the dock before you make the run. Rec 90 (90-octane ethanol-free) shown for a like-for-like comparison; regular ethanol gas at some docks runs cheaper. Docks flagged closed or under construction aren't counted in the summary calculations.

Skip the fuel dock — get delivery

What Marine Diesel Fuel Delivery Costs

The total cost is primarily the current per-gallon price multiplied by the number of gallons delivered. Mobile Marina does not require a membership, and diesel deliveries have a 50-gallon minimum. The live rate can change with the wholesale market, which is why the fuel-price comparison is the best place to check today's number.

When comparing delivery with a marina pump, include more than the posted price:

  • Fuel used during the detour: A round trip to the fuel dock consumes some of the product you just purchased.
  • Travel and waiting time: Busy weekends can mean a line at the pump, especially near popular passes and marinas.
  • Dock hours: A convenient location is not useful if its fuel dock closes before you can get there.
  • Diesel availability: Many Tampa Bay fuel docks sell gasoline but do not publish a diesel price.
  • Quantity needed: A larger fill makes the time and fuel used on a dedicated trip more significant.

Dockside delivery will not always be the lowest advertised price per gallon. Its value is that the fuel arrives at the boat, the trip to get fuel disappears, and the vessel can be ready when you plan to use it. Compare the full cost and convenience rather than a pump number in isolation.

Dockside Diesel Delivery vs. a Marina Fuel Dock

Marina fuel docks are a great resource when you forgot to fuel ahead of time, are already underway, or need diesel before the next scheduled delivery route. It is good to have that option. But it should not have to be the first errand of every boating day.

With a little planning, marine diesel fuel delivery moves the fuel stop off your personal schedule. Instead of starting the morning with a run to the pump, you can leave the slip and go fishing, head to the sandbar, meet friends on the water, or simply get underway. The better option depends on whether you need fuel now or want the boat ready before you arrive.

Consideration Dockside diesel delivery Marina fuel dock
Boat movement Boat remains at its regular location Boat must travel to the dock
Scheduling Planned on a service-area route Limited by dock hours and pump availability
Waiting No fuel-dock line for the owner Lines can form during busy periods
Product availability Marine diesel confirmed before scheduling Diesel availability varies by marina
Property access Delivery vessel approaches from the water Owner operates the boat to the pump
Best fit Boats kept in-water that value readiness Boats already passing a convenient fuel dock

A marina fuel dock is useful when you are already underway and need diesel immediately. But when your boat stays in the water, Mobile Marina gives you back the part of the day a fuel run would consume. We deliver diesel at the boat's regular dock on a scheduled route, so there is no detour to the pump, no fuel-dock line, and no need to plan your departure around marina hours. Your boat can be fueled before you arrive—leaving you free to step aboard, start the engines, and spend your time on the water.

What Happens on Delivery Day

A smooth diesel delivery begins with a complete Mobile Marina account. Your captain receives the boat, dock, tank, fuel, authorization, and access information saved there. If the boat is at a marina, include any approval or dock-management notes in the account. You do not need to repeat the same information to someone every time you schedule; just keep the account current when the boat, dock, or tank details change.

The delivery team then:

  1. Approaches the vessel from the water and confirms a safe position.
  2. Secures the fuel vessel alongside the dock or customer boat.
  3. Verifies the correct boat, fuel fill, and diesel order.
  4. Protects the work area and prepares the fueling equipment.
  5. Delivers the authorized quantity while monitoring the fill.
  6. Completes the fueling and leaves the boat the way we found it—from the covers to the tie-up. The goal is for you not to know we were there except that the fuel tank is full.

You may not need to be physically present when your account contains the required vessel details, marina permission, access instructions, and authorization. The captain works from the information attached to your account and order.

Mobile Marina loads fuel from the bulk terminal for its route rather than storing it indefinitely at an individual marina pump. That operating model keeps the focus on planned, water-based delivery throughout the bay.

What to Know About Diesel Quality and Fuel-System Care

Clean fuel matters, but a delivery cannot correct an existing tank problem. Water, sediment, degraded hoses, clogged filters, microbial growth, and a poorly maintained vent system can all create symptoms that look like bad fuel or an engine problem.

Before a large fill, pay attention to the condition of the fuel system:

  • Replace primary and secondary fuel filters on the engine manufacturer's schedule.
  • Drain or inspect water separators as required for the system.
  • Investigate recurring water, sludge, or filter restriction instead of repeatedly replacing filters.
  • Keep the deck fill cap, seal, and vent in good condition so rainwater and spray stay out.
  • Know whether interconnected tanks must be filled separately.
  • Stop if the deck fitting is unlabeled or the correct diesel fill is uncertain.

If the engine is hard-starting, losing power, producing alarms, or repeatedly clogging filters, schedule diagnosis before assuming a fresh tank of diesel will solve the problem. Mobile Marina's marine engine service covers diesel diagnostics and repair for major inboard brands across Tampa Bay.

How Much Diesel Should You Order?

You do not need to guess from the fuel gauge alone. Marine gauges can be imprecise, especially in long or irregular tanks. Start with the tank's documented capacity, your best estimate of current fuel, and the boat's normal burn rate.

Diesel fuel does expand as it warms. NIST identifies a widely accepted diesel expansion coefficient of approximately 0.00050 per degree Fahrenheit, which means a 30°F temperature increase changes the fuel's volume by roughly 1.5%. Federal clean-marina guidance also advises boaters not to top off a tank, leaving space for temperature-related expansion.

That does not mean you need to calculate the final gallon yourself. Tank shape, gauge accuracy, current fuel temperature, and the vessel's usable capacity all affect the actual fill. Add the documented tank capacity and your requested quantity or fill preference to your account. The captain monitors the delivery at the boat rather than assuming that a 300-gallon nameplate means 300 gallons should be pumped.

Before your first delivery, complete your Mobile Marina account with as much information as possible. Add:

  • Boat make, model, and length
  • Marina, slip number, or waterfront address
  • Number and approximate capacity of diesel tanks
  • Requested gallons or fill instructions
  • Location of each diesel deck fill
  • Whether the boat is in a slip, on a lift, or at a private dock
  • Marina permission and access notes
  • Whether the owner will be present

Once those details are saved, our captains have the information they need to complete the delivery. You do not need to call and repeat it for every order. Keep the account updated if you move slips, change access instructions, modify the fuel system, or want a different fill quantity.

Real-cost calculator

What does your nearest fuel dock really cost?

Enter your dock's address and we'll estimate the round trip to the nearest fuel docks — by water, the way you'd actually run it — including the time and the fuel you burn getting there.

Before you calculate, factor in the full fuel-dock trip:

  • About 30 minutes to uncover, prepare, and take your boat off the lift.
  • The round-trip running time and fuel your boat burns getting to the dock.
  • Time at the fuel dock to pump your fill, plus any wait for an open pump.
  • About 30 minutes after you return to lift the boat, wash it down, and flush the engines.

The calculator includes 60 minutes for lift handling and cleanup before adding travel and pump time.

Frequently Asked Questions

Schedule Marine Diesel Fuel Delivery in Tampa Bay

Marine diesel fuel delivery is built for boat owners who want the vessel fueled where it already lives. The boat stays at its normal dock, the delivery arrives from the water on a scheduled route, and the separate trip to a marina pump disappears.

Start by completing your Mobile Marina account with the marina or waterfront address, boat details, tank capacity, access notes, and requested quantity. That gives our captains what they need to complete the delivery. Review the Tampa Bay service map, and if you have any questions about the dock, contact one of our captains or call (727) 761-1173 so we can figure out whether delivery is possible.
